How to Prepare for a Reiki Attunement

Often I’m asked by new students how they should prepare for a Reiki Attunement. In short, there is no right or wrong way to prepare. However, there are a few guidelines that I give my students and they can decide to follow these if they so wish.

Personally I observe the Attunement as a sacred agreement between me and the Universe. I believe that it is an event that should be cherished and an event that should be remembered. Preparing properly for an event such as an attunement ads meaning and so much more can be gained from this beautiful experience.

The instructions below illustrate how one can prepare for a Reiki Attunement. These guidelines are not, by any means, essential to receiving the Attunement, but do assist with giving you the most beneficial and enjoyable experience possible. During the Reiki Attunement process, the auric field; certain physiological aspects of the body; and energy centers, are metaphysically realigned. A Reiki Attunement may cause any negative implants such as emotional anger and guilt to resurface, or manifest within the individual receiving the Attunement. In order to prepare for the purging of harmful / negative energies from the three Divine parts of the human experience (Body, Mind and Soul); one should engage in the purification process, which greatly increases the desired positive results that a Reiki Attunement produces.


Instructions

  1. Temporarily restrict your intake of red meat, poultry and fish from the diet, three days prior to your Reiki Attunement. Meat in the digestive system (especially red meat), can make your physical body sluggish and dense. Excellent substitutions for protein in the diet are beans and legumes.
  2. Drink ample amounts of water to aid the colon, kidneys and liver, in order to flush the body of toxins. Aim for at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day, to assist your body in its detoxification process. Your kidneys will thank you later! Pay close attention how your urine color and smell will improve. This recommendation is also known to help relieve minor kidney and liver pains as well.
  3. Refrain from caffeine in your diet, three days prior to your Reiki Attunement. Caffeine is an active ingredient in many beverages, foods and medications – both over-the-counter and prescribed. Reducing your caffeine intake may alleviate any chemical imbalances, which may adversely affect the central nervous and endocrine systems of the body.
  4. Go Green! Organically grown leafy green vegetables are excellent sources of vitamins and minerals, which the body requires to sustain its normal balance. Consider grabbing a blend of fresh fruits and/or vegetables for a terrific smoothie snack, instead of drinking carbonated drinks or any caffeinated products. When preparing vegetables, do not overcook them. Rather steam or blanche your greens to retain as much of their nutritional value as possible.
  5. Reduce your sugar and salt intake. These ingredients can cause agitation of the circulatory system.
  6. Restrict alcoholic beverages from your intake for three days prior to your Reiki Attunement. Alcohol causes dehydration of the body and is therefore not conducive for the Reiki Attunement process.
  7. Clear the air! Refrain from smoking and reduce your exposure to second-hand smoke. Smoking reduces your physical body’s natural ability to facilitate the blood-gas exchange process, through capillary lung function at the cellular level. Also, smoking adversely affects the functioning of the heart and causes heart disease.
  8. Experience nature at its finest! Whether it’s in a country field, the neighborhood park, or a simple stroll down the street, go outside and absorb your natural surroundings and the world around you. Strive to become aware of all your five senses (Touch, Taste, Sight, Smell and Sound), as well as the elements (Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Spirit).
  9. Record your findings and experiences in your favourite journal.

Emotional Clearing Prior to A Reiki Attunement

  1. Emotional blockages such as guilt, anger, hatred, bitterness, envy, excessive worry and/or any unresolved emotional baggage, can actually hinder your body’s ability to properly heal itself. In order to maintain physical health, we must maintain mental and spiritual health as well.
  2. Take time to write up an Emotional Blockage List in your journal and record any and all emotional blockages for admonishment, seven days prior to your Reiki Attunement. One of the greatest gifts of the Reiki Attunement process is the Emotional Clearing. This is a time to identify old emotional scarring and resolve any residue of emotional damage. Emotional stresses can cause physical pain and ailments to manifest and therefore, are not conducive to achieving the desired positive results.
  3. After you have established your Emotional Blockage List, work through your list one issue at a time and focus on how to resolve, or outgrow your emotional issues. Dealing with stressful memories and events may trigger certain emotions / feelings that you may have forgotten about; memories that were lying dormant in your subconscious mind. It helps to have a good support system and people around you who can offer you an ear to listen, or a shoulder to cry on. It also helps if these people are non-judgmental, which in turn aids you in resolving these blockages. If you feel that you are in need professional counseling services, select a professional that respects your metaphysical and/or spiritual choices and views.
  4. Learn to forgive yourself. Once you have identified which emotional areas need work, continue with your emotional clearing process, by forgiving yourself first. Then, if in the event that your emotional issue involves another individual(s), speak or write to them, and ask for their forgiveness. Whether the other individual(s) actively forgives you at that time, is not as important as you putting forward the effort to clear and cleanse the way between you and the individual(s) involved.
  5. Maintaining emotional clearing: deal with problems as they arise! Do not allow your problems to fester. When you become angry, redirect the emotion by channeling the negative emotions / feelings into a positive resolution. Consciously practice thinking – prior to reacting to any situation. Using this method results in positive conflict resolution.
  6. Ensure that you will be uninterrupted during your Reiki Attunement process and this includes turning off your cellphone and notifying friends and family that you will be unavailable during your Reiki Attunement session. Reiki Attunement energy is the Universal Life Force Energy Field that is channeled from the Reiki Master to the Reiki Attunement receiver. Fifteen to thirty minutes prior to your Reiki Attunement, release any tension and negativity from your Mind, Body and Spirit. Then, enter into a light state of meditation and relax completely.
